Swabhumi was originally built as a cultural Haat on a garbage dump of 13 acres at Narkeldanga, Kolkata, W.B, India. Located at the edge of Salt Lake City, this Haat came into existence in the late 90’s as a PPP project to celebrate the cultural heritage of Bengal through performance, food and heritage. However, the original model failed due to its inherent shortcomings as it didn’t work well with the hot and humid weather of Kolkata.
Raajkutir offers 5 key Experiences LIVING, CELEBRATING, POSSESSING, DINING and SOCIALISING by providing the Raaj Baari Ambience, luxury living, multiple convention halls, a retail experience, various restaurants, cafes, lounges and bars along with sprawling open green spaces.
While over 60% of built fabric has been conserved, the new 40% brings in the spirit of Bengal Craftsmanship and is layered with what existed to bring it alive. Introducing many design elements, like employment of Cast iron balconies, patios, crests, brackets and fountains. This very texture of passion and sensuality brings life into adapted architecture.
